I have to admit, I was a little confused about the design and development phases. But thanks to Lianne, its much clearer now. I piloted the Wattsapp application with a few of my students and received some recommendations on how to better improve its usability. I still need to bring everything together though and avoid over-complicating things. One could get carried away with e-learning...
Rhoda your idea works. I would love you share more with me. I had a whats app group and initially worked very until then it became a social platform. So what I learnt was that you need to keep them occupied with stuff for discussion on the group, they can mute the group if one is not in a position to participate and probably you can make them create another group where you are not the administrator for thier social if they do not have one already. This keeps your group a strictly academic one. Excellent idea Rhoda
ReplyDeletei find it is definitely an iterative process - going back and forward, not only to check on what was in your analysis and are you adressing it but going back as you bump your head on challenges - either technological or whatever.
ReplyDeleteI discussed a WhatsApp group but the students did not like the idea. their main reason was that older messages get lost in history. They use WhatsApp to communicate with me individually and they have a student group but did not want it for passing on info regarding the block. Interesting!
I also found that the whatsapp works wonderful for short messages, reminders, motivational messages, etc. for various groups. The pilot group I am using is very small and luckily they will be able to recieve and respond in various technological ways. I must now just get my head around which means of e-learning I am going to initiate....
