Developing
As I approach the end of my developing phase (yes, I know I am way behind), I understand why the ADDIE model adopts an iterative process rather than a sequential one. The fact that one can enter, leave and re-enter each phase makes this model highly adaptable and flexible. While in the development phase, I realized that I have omitted certain aspects in the assessment and the design phase. I could then re-enter, adapt and move on.

Still developing...
I have to admit, I was a little confused about the design and development phases. But thanks to Lianne, its much clearer now. I piloted the Wattsapp application with a few of my students and received some recommendations on how to better improve its usability. I still need to bring everything together though and avoid over-complicating things. One could get carried away with e-learning...

I found this article quite useful in terms of the challenges faced when utilizing technology for teaching and learning :)

analysis
The large number and diversity of my students made it difficult to analyze specific learning needs of each student. I had initially tried the interviewing method but then decided to go with the questionnaire. This was however done in pen and paper format since most of my students are not familiar with the use of a computer. The outcome of the questionnaire was a clear request for increased interaction and contact with lecturer and peers, as well as increased access to subject matter.
I had initially thought about the ThinkBinder application but quickly realised that this may not be appropriate for this group of students. When asked about access to computers and the internet, most students indicated that it would defeat the purpose of trying through improve access since they either did not have computers and internet access at home, or did not have the skills to make use of the internet. It was however noted that all students had access to a cellphone with 'watsapp' features. I am therefore contemplating the use of watsapp for the e-learning prototype that I need to develop.
